“Nives and Laura Dearmas have stood out at the concerts recently carried out. A genuine baroque Bach, undoubtedly perfect versions, which thanks to the solid schools and matured esthetical feelings, left, in my opinion, an unparalleled memory of Bach at the harpsichord, whether performed individually or jointly by these two Uruguayan harpsichordists at Zitarrosa Auditorium in the city of Montevideo ”.

The “Dearmas Duo” recreates a traditional way of performing music, in recognition of a society where arts and trades were passed on from generation to generation in the intimate atmosphere of family homes. They evoke with their instruments the ancient sounds of the Baroque era, conveying the spirit that reigned in chamber music, “playing for their own pleasure, far beyond the presence of an attentive audience”.
Laura and Nives Dearmas earned a University Degree in piano from the School of Music in Uruguay. Professors in Harpsichord from the Conservatory in Zaragoza , and Harpsichord Degree at UNICAMP University (Campinas-Brazil). They were always close to the most reliable sources of information with respect to that period.
In 1998, the Dearmas sisters were invited to the International Ancient and Baroque Music Festival in Curitiba, where they appeared for the first time as a duet focusing on the Baroque era with German, French, Italian and Spanish works for two harpsichords. At the same time they hold on an original contemporary repertoire, where the harpsichord may be valued as a live instrument of this time, in pieces of uruguayan composers with rhythms such as “tango”, “milonga” and “candombe”, either soloist or in duo.
They played with Armónico Tribute Baroque Orchestra under the conduction of Edmundo Hora; Rosana Lanzelotte; Manfred Kraemer; as well as in different cities of Brazil: Mosteiro de São Bento, Teatro São Pedro de Porto Alegre, Campinas University (UNICAMP); Cultural Center of Spain in Miami; Embassy of Uruguay in Washington and at the Miami Bach Society. Last September they opened the 2009 / 2010 Concert Season at the Miami Bach Society.
With the Project “A Journey through the Music of Spain and Latin America”, they played in Israel (The Buchmann-Mehta School of Music-Tel-Aviv University); Holland (Maastricht and Amsterdam) and Barcelona (Eduardo Toldrá Auditorium - Barcelona Conservatory) in November 2011.
In Uruguay they played with Montevideo Philharmonic Orchestra and were part of the concert series of Cultural Center of Spain, Catholic University, SODRE, and Mozarteum Foundation.
On November 2016 Dearmas Duo and Daniel Wolff presented the CD "Concierto del Plata" in Poland: Katowice, and in the International Festival of Contemporary Music in Kracow.
They recorded the Cds:
“German Music for Two Harpsichords” opening the concert season 2009 of the Miami Bach Society.
“Del Plata Concerto” which got 2 nominations to the Açorianos Award/2012 in Porto Alegre, as best classical music Cd.
They fulfill a solid and prestigious teaching task in their country. They manage the Music Atelier at The Anglo School in Montevideo since 2008.
CONCERT OF THE BAROQUE QUINTET AND SOLOISTS
“Mozarteum Foundation of Uruguay presented (…) the Brazilian strings baroque quintet conducted by Edmundo Hora – Armónico Tributo – together with Uruguayans Cristina García Banegas, Laura and Nives Dearmas. The versions were faultless, and it is important to highlight the impetus and the tuned unity that the conductor achieved in all the works and the marvellous performances of the three Uruguayan harpsichordists.”
